Need a New Car Soon? How to Find a Lease Car Without Waiting Months

If you know you'll need a new car within the next few weeks or months, when should you start looking? The simple answer is now – particularly if you have a definite date by which you need the vehicle.

Not every new car advertised for leasing is sitting somewhere waiting to be delivered. Some vehicles need to be factory ordered, others may already be on their way to the UK, while some are physically in stock and can potentially be delivered much sooner.

So, if your current lease is ending, your company car needs replacing or you simply need another vehicle quickly, availability can be just as important as the monthly rental.

How quickly can I get a new lease car?

There isn't one standard delivery time for a lease car.

A factory-order vehicle may take several months and certain models or specifications can take considerably longer. At the other end of the scale, an in-stock vehicle may already be in the UK or allocated to a dealer and therefore potentially available much sooner.

This is why searching purely by make and model isn't always the best approach if you have a deadline.

If you need a vehicle soon, start with what is actually available and then decide which of those cars best suits your requirements.

NEV Leasing maintains a regularly updated selection of in-stock lease cars for customers looking for vehicles that may be available for quicker delivery.

My current lease is ending – when should I start looking?

Ideally, don't wait until the final few weeks.

If your existing lease ends within the next three months, it is worth investigating your replacement options now.

That doesn't necessarily mean ordering immediately. It gives you time to understand current availability, compare prices and decide whether you are prepared to compromise on colour, specification or even model in return for earlier delivery.

If you leave the decision too late, your choice may be dictated almost entirely by what happens to be available.

Starting earlier gives you more options.

Don't assume the cheapest advertised lease is the best deal for you

Headline monthly rentals can be useful for comparing cars, but look at the complete agreement.

Check the initial rental, contract length, annual mileage and whether the quotation is for business or personal leasing.

A £199 monthly rental with a large initial payment isn't necessarily better value than another offer with a slightly higher monthly rental and lower upfront cost.

Availability matters too.

Saving a few pounds per month may not help if the vehicle won't arrive until several months after you need it.

NEV's Special Offers page brings together current leasing deals worth considering across a range of manufacturers and vehicle types.

What if I'm flexible about which car I have?

This can put you in a particularly strong position.

You may have started by looking for a particular make and model, but consider what you actually need from the vehicle.

For example:

  • SUV or hatchback?
  • Automatic or manual?
  • Petrol, hybrid or electric?
  • How much space do you need?
  • What annual mileage will you cover?
  • What is your comfortable monthly budget?
  • Is there a date by which you must have the car?

There may be three or four vehicles that satisfy those requirements.

If one is available considerably sooner or has a particularly attractive leasing offer, it could make more sense than waiting for the model you originally had in mind.

Petrol, hybrid or electric?

If you're changing cars now, powertrain is another decision you'll probably encounter.

There isn't a universal answer.

An electric car can make excellent sense for some drivers, particularly where home charging is practical or the vehicle is being provided as a company car or through salary sacrifice. For other drivers, petrol or hybrid may currently fit their mileage and circumstances better.

The important point is not to dismiss—or automatically choose—a particular technology before comparing the actual cars and costs available to you.

NEV can help you compare the options based on how you will actually use the vehicle.

Looking for a business lease car?

Availability can become even more important when a vehicle is required for work.

Perhaps an employee is starting shortly, an existing company car is being returned or the business has taken on somebody who needs a vehicle.

Waiting several months for a factory order may simply not be practical.

Businesses should also look beyond the rental itself and consider the tax and financial implications of different vehicles and funding methods.

This is particularly important when comparing petrol, hybrid and electric company cars.

What are the best car lease deals available right now?

Lease pricing changes constantly.

Manufacturers introduce support, funders change residual values and interest assumptions, and batches of vehicles can become available at particularly competitive rentals.

A car that represented excellent value three months ago isn't necessarily the best deal today.

That's why NEV maintains its Special Offers rather than simply assuming the same models will always provide the best value.

If you're flexible about manufacturer, model or specification, it's worth looking at the current offers before deciding what to order.

Need a new car within the next few months?

Start with three things:

When do you need it? What does the vehicle need to do? What do you want to spend?

Then look at the cars that satisfy those requirements and are genuinely available within your timeframe.

You don't necessarily need to search through hundreds of lease deals yourself.

NEV Leasing can look at your requirements, discuss the different funding options and help identify suitable vehicles currently available from its network of suppliers.

And if you've already decided exactly what you want, NEV can check current pricing and availability for that vehicle too.
